Kmart, Big W or Target Whipped Cream Dispenser — Is the Cheap One Worth It, and Where Is the Gas?

A Kmart whipped cream dispenser is a reasonable buy. So is the Big W one. They are aluminium 500ml cream whippers at $25 to $70, they work, and for a birthday cake once a year they are all you need. The problem is what they cannot come with. Neither Kmart, Big W, Woolworths nor Target sells the N2O cream charger that makes a dispenser do anything, so the usual Melbourne story is a whipper on the bench, a tub of cream in the fridge and an evening spent searching for a bulb. Here is what each shop actually lists, what you get for the money, and how the Skywhip Pro 500ml we deliver compares.

What Kmart, Big W and Target actually sell

Checked 15 October 2026. Marketplace listings change weekly, so treat the brands and prices as a snapshot. The pattern does not change, the whipper is available and the gas is not.

Is the cheap one any good?

Mostly yes. A $26 aluminium whipper and a $70 one are built the same way, an aluminium bottle, a plastic or metal head with a lever, a gasket, a charger holder and two or three decorating tips. The differences that matter are the head (metal heads survive dishwashers and drops, plastic heads crack at the thread eventually), the gasket (a cheap one perishes within months and then the whipper leaks gas instead of charging the cream) and whether the thread on the charger holder is cut to the universal 8g standard, which on the no-name units is usually fine but occasionally is not. If the whipper hisses from the head when you screw a charger in, that is the gasket, and it is a $5 part if the brand sells spares and a new whipper if it does not.

What the Skywhip Pro 500ml gives you

• An aluminium 500ml body with a high-impact head, three decorating tips, a cleaning brush and a charger holder in the box.
• The universal 8g to 8.4g charger fitting, so Supremewhip, Skywhip Pro and BestWhip bulbs all screw straight on.
• Sold as a single at $55, a 2 pack at $105 or a 3 pack at $140 for venues, and in a combo with 50 to 1,200 chargers from $100.
• The same drop brings the chargers. 10 to 15 minutes in the CBD, about 30 minutes across the suburbs, until 2AM Monday to Wednesday and 5AM Thursday to Sunday.

It is not a $200 iSi. If you want a stainless body with a lifetime of spares and you are happy to wait for the post, buy the iSi. If you want to be whipping cream in half an hour with the bulbs to do it, the Skywhip and a 50 pack is the sensible order. Both are on the whipped cream dispensers page.

The thing nobody tells you about the gas

A whipped cream dispenser does nothing without a cream charger, and the shops that sell the dispenser do not sell the charger. Kmart’s website is the one exception and it is a marketplace 10 pack of 7.5g bulbs at $24.50, which is $2.45 a bulb and several days in the post. A 50 pack of Supremewhip 8.2g from us is $55, $1.10 a bulb, with more gas in each one, delivered tonight. The gap gets wider by the box, under 50 cents a bulb by the 600 pack. Full numbers are on the nangs prices page.
